The Tension in the YellowBubble
Category Tension
To me, there seems to be a fair amount of tension between certain players in our little Yellow Bubble. There's another interesting post about this today by one of the ultimate contributors, Ben Langhinrichs. Personally, I'm mostly ignorant to the background issues that are causing the tension between some of the key players in these little dramas but I do know that these suspects have been posting for years and all have made valuable contributions to the community. Being outside and ignorant of these issues, I have very little to say about anything but I will say this:
The tension in the community is my primary motivation for increasing my contributions!
Rather then trying to find out all the "he said/she said" details, which I admit a morbid curiosity to, I decided that the only productive thing that I could do is attempt to give back as much as I could for the good of the community. Sure I have some other motivations, but I've been just "talking" about doing something for months. When Declan pulled his projects from OpenNTF I had had enough. I felt the need to do "something". I think the next day was when I released my first screencast. Declan did what he thought he needed to do and I have great respect for him and his decision. I felt that after being mostly a watcher for so long I needed to do something myself.
So my suggestion is this; if you're involved in this, or especially if you are not, take the time and contribute something. It could be anything. Maybe positive contributions can drown out some of these non-productive issues and we can get back to the real issues of working on one of the best platforms around. How can you contribute?
Post a LotusScript Function that you like.
Go back to the forums and answer someones question.
Post something interesting that you're working on. Maybe the idea will inspire someone else.
Post an idea on IdeaJam.
Go to someone's blog who posted a tip you used and say "Thanks"
Buy your administrator a soda. Admins need love too you know.
If you don't have a blog, put the tip on one of the many IBM Wiki's. Or send it to someone who does and ask if they'd be interested in publishing it. They just might. Just do something positive and maybe, just maybe, it'll help us reduce this tension and move on.
My thoughts...
P.S.
For the true geeks I was going to call this post "The Yellow Impurity" but I didn't think many people would get the Green Lantern reference.

I have refocused on the forums, because when I was a newbie (12 years ago), I learned so much from the forums at notes.net (now LDD) that I want to be sure other newbies get that support as well. (And hopefully I'll get that Redbook Residency, too.) You are forging ahead with the XPages videos. And a hundred or so people are doing things in between or beyond. There is room for all of us to contribute in various ways, and the more energy we put into positive contribution, the better off everyone is.
BTW - make mine a Diet Coke.

With so many exciting things happening in Lotus Notes/Domino development (Xpages specifically) it is a shame to see the soap opera unfold as it has drawing so many very talented people into the fray.
Anyways keep up the great work there are many, many, many of us out there (who may not be blogging, yelling, or instigating) who get pumped up when they see a new Notes in Nine post flow through planetlotus.
